My name is Jess Wright and i am curently attending Guilford Young College in Tasmania. Recently some friends and I were discussing the devestating
Victorian bushfires and even though our school is doing a fundraiser we wish to do something more. Our idea is to travel to the fire devestated
area(s) and help to rebuild things like houses, schools, or even simply paint a few walls. We progressed this idea to our deputy principal and he advised us to do some research make a few enquiries and relay back to him what we had found. It would not be until late May early June we could get over there despite this we are extremely keen. Anybody who is interested please follow the links to contact me.

A wide range of resources for people affected by the bushfires and for those working to assist them have been made available by the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

By clicking on the Bushfire Resources link on the APS webpage at www.psychology.org.au people can access a range of helpful resources and download whichever they want. Some are designed primarily for survivors, to help them cope with their distress and the psychological reactions that typically emerge after such a traumatic experience. Other resources are designed primarily for those working to assist survivors, including counsellors, psychologists, GPs and other disaster relief workers. These outline current best practice strategies for helping survivors cope with their immediate and short-term distress, emphasising the value of basic practical and emotional support. There are also a number of web-links that provide information about monitoring survivors for signs of risk in the longer-term, and for providing appropriate referrals or treatment where indicated.

Hi there,
I have been involved in Bushfire Recovery since Sunday the 8th of Feb.
My partner and I currently run community gatherings for evening meals. The success of this has been huge, and is still needed in many areas.
We hope to start soon in areas that have been neglected.
We were recently donated a mobile cool room, which is more valuable than you can imagine!!
But we need a GENERATOR to run it.
This is to be used to collect food from metropolitan areas and transport it, as well as keep it in remote areas and places that do not have adequate food storage facilities.

Any and all people between the ages of 12 and 80 are invited to lend a hand repairing fence-lines burnt out in the Black Saturday Bushfires.
The VFF fencing program is the peak coordinating organ in the state for fencing reconstruction, and we have regional coordinators in all bushfire-affected areas.
Volunteers should call before the first of September, be willing to donate a day at a time, and have their own transport to affected areas.
"An amazing experience." - Nillumbik shire volunteer.

The loan / use of a bob-cat and loader for one month would be appreciated. My brother has property in the Castella area that needs clearing as a result of the bushfires. The relief packages haven't catered for people in his situation where the property was "home" on a part-time basis.

We are looking for anyone that would like to assist with some web design projects relating to the bushfire recovery. At the very least, we would be interested in hearing your ideas as to how the communication to all affected can be improved.

Thank you

Can anyone assist with a satellite dish. We lost both of our satellite dishes in the bushfires and this is the only method by which we receive radio and television reception. We returned home in February, living in a small caravan on our block and are finding the nights increasingly long now daylight saving has finished.

I have not included a telephone number as we don't receive a mobile signal at home, either, and haven't had the phone reconnected due to us being in a caravan.

Help please! with re fencing, cleaning up block, cutting and trimming of trees, Structual engineer to access what is left of the lower part of the house which is double brick with a six inch suspended concrete floor between what was the upper and lower level and evidently help with rebuilding as we don't qualify for any financial assistance even though our home at Marysville was the only home we own. We rent to Melbourne due to family and work commitments and bought in Marysville with the intention to retire there. We find ourselves in no mans land at the moment and would appreciate hands on help. Grocon is scheduled to make the site safe within the next two weeks. Thank you for reading.

I have donated horse and stock feed personally on two separate occasions, and will continue to assist, as I can. I'm just putting the word out that the farmers and animals are still in desperate need of hay and stock feed. Currently, Animal Aid are in need of around 700 bales of hay and they will distribute out to those in need. If anyone can contribute, please contact Animal Aid asap:

Dear Sir My name is Inga and I work for Valley sport (non-profit organisation that helps sporting groups and the community become more physically active) Because of the recent bushfires in the murrindindi shire and the devastation in marysville there was a need to rent a shed in Buxton and supply the community with medical treament. this building is also going to house a gym ( donated gym equipemnt) and a place for people to meet and have a cup of tea to reconnect. we are needing the shed (looks like a carport) to be lined insulated and plastered, painted and a kitchen type thing put in there so physical activitiy groups can start. We have a group of hospital handy men to do the labour but need to have the materials donated. the venue is a rental and because of this we don't seem to fit any category for funding. however there is a need for this to occur in buxton within the next couple of weeks. we were wondering if you could help in any way. regards inga Rhodes valley sport 5772 0810

We urgently require someone to adopt our lovely 12 year old Beagle called Hibberdine (Hibby). He is desexed, and microchipped and is very trainable as long as food is on offer! Unfortunately when we return home next week our circumstances will be altered considerably and we have decided that we can no longer give him the home he needs.

He has been most generously looked after by a Dog Kennel in Mornington but we really need to find somewhere permanent for him by this Saturday the 14th of March.

He would most appreciate being with other dogs (beagles!!??) as he otherwise has a propensity to dig under fences and chase rabbits.

Thank you very much
Jonathan

If you have any unwanted, unopened lipstick, nail polish, moisturizer, face masks, basically anything "girlie" we are putting together pamper boxes. These are just to make some of the women feel pampered again. I looked through my bathroom cabinet on the weekend and managed to fill a box of things I had never opened but just knew I would use "one day". That time has now arrived. These boxes are not for immediate distribution as so much has already been donated, but will be donated in about three months' time.

Also, if you have any cross-stitch packs, long stitch packs, any craft work that you are going to get around to "one day", that would also be appreciated as creating things can be very relaxing. Basically anything you feel would make a woman feel special, even if only for a short time.

Books would also be appreciated as well as plant cuttings from your garden to get some new gardens established.

Here's Animal Aid's website...

They have updates there on help they need from day-to-day/week-to-week. Right now, they also need horse leads, ropes, etc. These animals are all standing in burnt out paddocks.

I've just spoken with Animal Aid in Coldstream and they desperately need, at this stage: horse and livestock feed such as lucerne, hay, oats, chaff, carrots, apples, etc. They need horse blankets, blankets, water barrels/troughs/containers for their drinking water -- they are in desperate need apparently.

They have enough dog/cat food at this stage, but dog and cat beds would be good. They are accepting truckloads/carloads of stuff in Coldstream - there are signs to show you were to go. They then distribute to horses and livestock from there.

A great site if you want to find ways to help is:

They're going to need a lot of help, for a long time...
